Upcoming LIGHT morning study

Hi everyone,

After our discussion of Counterfeit Gods is over, beginning on September 19th, men from the LIGHT class will take turns facilitating a study of the Gospel of John. This will be a long-term study, with at least two mornings devoted to each chapter. Please consider prayerfully reading the Gospel of John in your own time as preparation for this season of fellowship and immersion in God's Word together.

Questions about idols.

This Sunday we will begin our study of "Counterfeit Gods" by Tim Keller. Bruce Adams will lead and has forwarded the following interesting questions to help us identify our idols:

• What is an idol? Give some examples of good things in life that can become idols.
• Idols capture our imagination, and we can locate them by looking at our daydreams. What do you daydream about? What do you enjoy imagining?
• Idols give us a sense of being in control, and we can locate them by looking at our nightmares. What do you fear the most?
• We can also locate idols by looking at our most unyielding emotions. What makes you uncontrollably angry, anxious, or despondent?

Counterfeit Gods

LIGHT MC will be using Tim Keller's book, "Counterfeit Gods" in a study of idolatry and its influence on our heart's response to Jesus answer to the question, "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment?"

Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' "
